Copamex was organized in May 1928 as a small facility for manufacturing and marketing papers bags under the name Fabrica Abastecedora de Bolsas.

Back to 1935, D. Carlos Maldonado Elizondo, the founder of Copamex (1913-2000) had the vision of progress and development and thus, by purchasing machinery abroad, sometimes used or rebuilt, the Company progressed and gained greater visibility in the market.

Some years afterwards, following the success within the regional market, the expansion activities were extended to Mexico City, Guadalajara and Chihuahua, supplying miscellaneous types of bags.

Sacos de Papel de Monterrey was organized in 1952. The company manufactures bags for cement, gypsum, chemicals and other products. Later on, thanks to its active participation in the market, the Company extended its share by manufacturing its own Kraft papers, rag papers as well as through a cardboard facility.

The Sixties and Seventies showed a rising trend where the companies of Consorcio Papelero Mexicano, currently Copamex, lead many aspects of the paper industry.

The Eighties gave rise to important decisions for some companies of the Group. On one hand, it was necessary to close Bolsas Maldonado, due to the penetration into the market of bags made of synthetic materials On the other hand, it was a time for the beginning of several operations related to Recycling services in the United States . Some years later condition changed and, at the beginning of the Nineties the damage to environment from the use of synthetic products that replaced papers became evident, which in turn brought a rebirth of the paper industry, following the re-valuation of its noble life cycle based on natural recycling.
