Our History

1928
The company that we know as COPAMEX was born in May, 1928, back then it was a small paper bag manufacturer called “Fábrica Abastecedora de Bolsas

1935
Fábrica Abastecedora de Bolsas changed its name to: Bolsas Maldonado, as the company moved forward, new products appeared, such as shopping bags, glassine paper bags, bags for clothes stores, coffee bags and bags for food products.

1935
Thanks to the company’s regional success, years later it began to develop in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Chihuahua with a variety of products.

1952
Fundación de Sacos de Papel de Monterrey, a company dedicated to the manufacturing of bags for packaging products such as cement, plaster and chemicals, among others.

1956
Compañía Papelera Maldonado, known today as Copamex Industrias, was created in San Nicolás de los Garza on February 20, 1956.

1958
The production of Kraft paper began on our machine number 1. In the 60´s and 70´s the paper industry grew steadily, with the Copamex companies setting the standard.

1962
As our machine number 2 came into play, we began to supply specialty paper, some of the products which stood out were glassine paper, butter paper, parma paper and base paper for silicone coating.

1966
Our machine number 3 started working on the production of Kraft paper, in 1987 the technology on this machine would be updated which would increase the production rate.

1972
Papelera de Chihuahua, a pioneer in the industry of Chihuahua, joined the Copamex family, strengthening our presence in the market with its production of Kraft paper and its variety of specialty paper.

1979
With the supply of recycled fibers, production begins in San Nicolás de los Garza in Nuevo León, a company now known as Coresa which is supplied by 7 plants from across Mexico. As Copamex Recycling has developed, it has provided solutions for the handling of non-hazardous residual waste, contributing to good recycling habits and environmental protection.

1989
Master Fibers Inc., our paper recycling plants, opened in the U.S.

1989
In this year we also wanted to make the industry more diverse and master different techniques so that we could develop our products further and offer more to our clients. As part of this, Inpamex became a part of the group and in its plant, Flexible Packaging was made, using flexographic, rotogravure and offset printing technology.

1995
Pondercel in Cuautémoc, Chihuahua joined the Copamex group, where bond paper (for writing) was made. This plant was considered to be one of the most important plants in Mexico in its area of expertise.

1995
As well as Pondercel, Copamex acquired a company which is known today as Taloquímica, a company which produces pine oil and aromatic terpene derivatives. After some time, Copamex Home appeared, offering the best quality home cleaning products.

2000
Production began at Copamex Corrugados Monterrey in San Nicolás de los Garza, Nuevo León, our first plant to produce boxes and corrugated cardboard.

2001
We welcomed Copamex Corrugados Cuidad de México, which produced corrugated cardboard sheets and boxes and continues to do so today.

2011
The recycling program “Espacio Verde” was launched, which helps our clients to have sustainable practices.

2014
CINNCO Copamex Innovation Center was born when we purchased a pilot machine, one of its kind in Latin America. This center is dedicated to the R&D of new products and the improvement of existing products.

Today
A big part of our success has been down to our ability to adapt and be more diverse, which we have developed over our nine decades as a company. However, what define us are our collaborators, today we have 2,500 proud employees that help us to grow, strategically place ourselves in the market and have market presence across the paper industry.
